Brief History of DVD/VIDEO

I wanted to write a blog about the adult dvd market in general, and how it has evolved over the past few decades. The internet has had an enormous impact on the adult dvd market in terms of pricing structure as well as marketing and distribution, as well as the overall business models and companies involved, however one think that most people overlook is the advent of the VCR or home video recorder back in the 1980's this had just a big if not bigger impact of the adult video market as well as the mainstream video market, it brought films (adult and mainstream) to the masses and meant that people could now watch films from the comfort of their homes instead of going to the cinema or having to own or hire a cine projector.
The downside to this at the time was the enormous cost involved of owning a VCR, unlike today's disposable culture where everything is only expected to last a few years and most things are made by cheap labor in China the VCR'S of the 1980's were enormously expensive and very few people could afford them.
But the VCR had a substantial impact on what films were watched - as most high budget films were released onto video, but not all films were distributed equally, which meant that some films could not be rented easily in some areas depending on whether or not the local distributor had an agreement to distribute a specific title with the company that owned the rights to that film.
The VCR also had a substantial effect on cinema audiences, previous to the VCR unless you owned or had access to a home cinema using cine film - and most people did not because of the costs of these things then the only place you could watch films was at the cinema (unless you wanted to wait years to watch films on tv) - so when the VCR came along slowly but surely cinema audiences declined resulting in many many cinema's closing for the last time.
